Parents seldom ask for help outright. Here are a few signs to look for while visiting over this holiday season.
- Unexplained injuries that may be the result of their diminishing skills, and the need for a safer environment with less clutter and other fall-risks.
- A decline in personal care habits may mean a growing fear of using the bathroom. The bathroom is the most dangerous room in the house, (true for little ones too).
- Unexplained damage to the car may indicate that driving is becoming more hazardous for them – and for others.
- Living in an increasingly smaller space can be an indication that they are living in more space than they can manage comfortably without worries.
- Housework isn’t getting done can be a sign they need some help with the housekeeping, especially if they have been a tidy person in the past.
- Not cooking meals can indicate a concern for fire safety. However not eating properly can cause dizziness and increase the chances of a fall.
- Unopened mail stacking up may be a sign that it is becoming increasingly difficult to understand and stay current with their affairs.
